Ritij Law Office (“Ritij”) recognizes the importance of protecting your Personal Information. When you are visiting this website, communicating with Ritij, or receiving legal services, Ritij may collect, use, retain and disclose your Personal Information in accordance with this Privacy Policy (“Policy”). This Policy may be updated from time to time. You are responsible for reviewing this Policy periodically for any changes. The changes to this Policy are effective as soon as the revised Policy is published on this website. This Policy was last updated on May 15, 2025.

Definitions

Personal Information” as the term used in this Policy, means any information relating to an identified or identifiable natural person; an identifiable natural person is one who can be identified, directly or indirectly, in particular by reference to an identifier such as a name, an identification number, location data, an online identifier or to one or more factors specific to the physical, physiological, genetic, mental, economic, cultural or social identity of that natural person.

Data Controller” as the term used in this Policy, means the natural or legal person who determines “how” and “why” your Personal Information is Processed. For e.g. in relation to providing legal services to you, Ritij acts as a Data Controller because Ritij is deciding how your Personal Information will be used and for what purpose, as more fully described in this Policy.  

Data Processor” as the term used in this Policy, means the natural or legal person who Processes your Personal Information on Ritij’s behalf.

Processing” as the term used in this Policy, means any operation or set of operations which is performed on your Personal Information,, whether or not by automated means, such as collection, recording, organisation, structuring, storage, adaptation or alteration, retrieval, consultation, use, disclosure by transmission, dissemination or otherwise making available, alignment or combination, restriction, erasure or destruction.

What Personal Information Ritij may collect from you?

  • Website data. When you use this website, the web server automatically collects and sends Personal Information to Ritij such as your IP address, your browser type and settings, the date and time of your access, how you used this website. 

  • Cookies. Cookies are small pieces of file that are sent to your browser to identify and remember certain information about you. For information on what cookies are sent to your browser and for what purpose, click the privacy button on the bottom of this website.   

  • Google Services. Ritij uses the following google services (“Google Services”) to improve this website and delivery of legal services. Google may collect certain information about you, your browser and devices. Google Services are governed by Google’s privacy policy, which can be found here: https://policies.google.com/privacy?gl=ca 

  1. Web Analytics. Ritij uses Google Web Analytics to improve user experience and enhance this website. Google Web Analytics collects information such as active users, Demographics (Age, Gender), Interests, Geo (Language, Location), Behavior (New vs. Returning, Frequency & Recency, Engagement), Technology (Browser & OS, Network), Mobile (Devices).   

  2. Google Calendar. Ritij uses Google Calendar to take appointments.  When you book a meeting through this website, Google may collect certain information about you, your browser and devices.   

  3. Google Drive. Ritij uses Google Drive to save client files. These client files may contain Personal Information, including any sensitive Personal Information such as your SIN number. Google, as a Data Processor, has access to client files created or saved in Google Drive. 

  4. Gmail. Ritij uses Gmail to communicate and exchange emails. Google, as a Data Processor, collects email you write or receive, which may contain Personal Information, including any sensitive Personal Information such as your SIN number.

  • Other Third Party Service Provider. Ritij may use third party service providers (such as Microsoft, Meta or Amazon) from time to time to continuously improve this website, its web presence, or delivery of legal services to you. These third party service providers may have different privacy practices than those contained in this Policy. Ritij will use reasonable efforts to ensure that it uses only those third party service providers that have privacy practices at least as stringent as this Policy. Ritij, as a Data Controller, will be responsible for Data Processors it engages in delivering legal services to you. However, in no way, Ritij is responsible for privacy and data handling practices of any third party service providers insofar it relates to Data Controller activities of such third party service providers. The Data Controller activities of third party service providers will be governed by the respective privacy policy of such third party party service providers.  

  • Information you voluntarily provide. When you submit contact forms through this website or receive legal services, your first and last name, email address, telephone number and other Personal Information, including sensitive Personal Information, depending on your need and situation, may be collected.

What is your Personal Information used for?

Your Personal Information is used for (“Purpose”):

  • Communicating and responding to your requests.

  • Fulfilling  legal and professional obligations, including client identification and verification rules of the law society of Ontario.

  • Conducting conflict searches to determine if Ritij can represent you.

  • Providing legal services to you. 

  • Administering accounts.

  • Managing contractual relationships, including enforcing any payment obligation under a retainer.   

  • Detecting and preventing any negligence, fraud or theft.

  • Improving this website or delivery of legal services to you.

  • Providing you with marketing and other information about legal services and about developments in the law.

  • Security and emergency purposes.

What is the legal basis for the Processing of your Personal Information?

  • Your consent, which you can withdraw at any time. By providing Personal Information, you consent to its collection, use, retention and disclosure in accordance with this Policy for the aforesaid Purpose. 

  • Legitimate interest, which consists of communication and exchange of information between Ritij and you through this Website or during the provision of legal services.

  • Performance of contractual obligations, such as under a retainer.

How long is your Personal Information kept?

​

Your Personal Information is deleted as soon as the aforesaid Purpose is completed. Ritij may however retain certain Personal Information for longer periods for legitimate business and legal purposes such as security, fraud protection and financial book-keeping.

To whom your Personal Information is disclosed?

 

Ritij may disclose your Personal Information to lawyers, paralegals and non-lawyers assisting Ritij in determining your legal situation and /or providing legal services to you. Ritij will ensure any assisting lawyers, paralegals and non-lawyers Process your Personal Information safely consistent with this Policy and in accordance with applicable privacy laws.

Ritij may use third party vendors (such as cloud vendors) to communicate with you and/or to help deliver or improve delivery of legal services to you. In doing so, such third party vendors may Process your Personal Information. Ritij will ensure it uses only those vendors whose privacy practices are at least as stringent as this Policy. Currently, Ritij uses Google as its Data Processor. Google, as a Data Processor, has access to client files created or saved in Google Drive, and email you write or receive via Gmail.

Ritij may disclose your Personal Information (i) if it is expressly or impliedly authorised by you, (ii) to establish and collect fees in the event of a dispute, (iii) in case there is a merger or reorganisation of law practice or (iv) as required by law.

How is the security of your Personal Information ensured?

Ritij is committed to upholding the obligations mandated by relevant privacy laws and the Law Society of Ontario Rules of Professional Conduct to safeguard any personal or confidential information obtained while rendering legal services to you.

In order to ensure the confidentiality, integrity and availability of your Personal Information, Ritij implements physical, procedural, and technological safeguards tailored to the sensitivity of the information. Whenever your Personal Information is transmitted to a third party for processing on Ritij's behalf, contractual arrangements are made to ensure that it receives a level of protection comparable to what Ritij would otherwise provide.

It is important to recognize that no method of data transmission or storage is entirely foolproof. Mail, voice communications, faxes, and internet data transmissions all carry the risk of potential loss, misdirection, interception, or misuse of the information being communicated or transmitted.

Is your personal data transferred out of Canada?

​

The sharing of your Personal Information with certain recipients may imply transfers of your data out of Canada. Where such transfers out of Canada shall take place, Ritij will comply with its obligations under applicable data privacy laws with respect to your Personal Information, including entering into appropriate contracts with recipients and ensure such recipients have privacy practices that are at least as stringent as this Policy.

What are your rights related to your personal data?

In any case, you have the right to access your Personal Information and to request that your Personal Information be rectified or deleted.

You are also entitled to object to the Processing of your Personal Information or to request restriction thereof.
